Our Story & The Origin of the Nail Buffer
BuffBloom is now led by third-generation siblings Adam Tropiejko and Natasha Bowsher. Their journey began with their grandfather, Jack Woodiwiss, who pioneered foam-coated abrasives in the UK. Jack invented the first ever sanding block primarily used in the hardware industry. Then came along George Dixon, a savvy young man from California looking at sourcing a softer more femine block to help his wife’s cosmetic nail business. Jack had just the thing. Together they introduced the 3 way buffer as we know it today.
In 2003, Jack's daughter, Barbara Tropiejko, expanded the business to the US, focusing on cosmetic buffers and building strategic partnerships with top-tier home improvement retailers.
Today BuffBloom products are proudly crafted in the heart of Northern Kentucky, where our innovative products have been consistenly produced for the past 20 years. As America’s largest manufacturer of coated foam abrasive products, we blend tradition with cutting-edge manufacturing to deliver over 50 million units annually to customers around the globe. Our nail buffers, a testament to our expertise, are just one facet of our Northern Kentucky plant, home to sister companies Abrapower USA and Gritty. Together, we shape the future of abrasive technology.
